This workbook contains a simulation of a finite capacity queue, starting empty, with data collection occurring between two user-specified times. Replications also start empty, so the frequencies and averages represent transient values, as the system evolves over a fixed time period.
Instructions are included, together with a short problem illustrating the model.
Visual Basic Macro operates the simulation, using the Gamma distribution for service times and inter-arrival times. The Coefficient of Variation may be set to any non-negative value. To model the Exponential distribution, set CV=1. For constant times, set CV=0.
Outputs include a graph of the frequency distribution of the number in the system, plus a graph showing the convergence of the average number in the system and the probability of balking.
This simple model is intended for teaching purposes. You are welcome to use it in any manner, and change it as you see fit. This workbook comes without any guarantee whatsoever, and is distributed free of charge.
